Week 11
The days have been starting like this - with my beanie on in the morning and shirt sleeves by the afternoon....Friday was the hottest March 21 on record...

Some 18% of Dutch adults smoke, 6% are heavy drinkers and half are overweight, according to the latest edition of the CBS’s annual health survey.
Fewer people smoked and drank last year when compared with 10 years ago but the number of people who are too heavy remained the same, the statistics agency said.
The number of smokers went down from 26% in 2014 to 18% a decade later, while the percentage of heavy drinkers (more than 21 units of alcohol per week for men and 14 for women) shrank from 10% to 6%.
On average people with university and college degrees, smoked less and were less often overweight than those without.
Weight is also related to income, with people on the lower income scale more at risk of being overweight than higher income groups, the research showed.

Around the farm
On Monday we shifted the greenhouse frame...
Also on Monday, Janny paid our firewood bill...and never one to die wondering, she asked the wood suppliers if they would come and chain-saw some big logs that we'd had for a couple of years?...and, oh can we borrow your log splitter? Yes on both counts - they currently have a quiet period when they can't go into the forest because it is breeding season for the birds.
They came almost straight away, so we suddenly had some unexpected work to do...splitting and stacking more firewood - I first had to empty one section - all good exercise!
I have previously put signs on the woodsheds, telling me what year to burn it. We have so much now that I have thought of a (hopefully) better way - a number on each shed and a spreadsheet to tell me what year and in what order. I can also tell the kids to get the firewood from No. 2, for example.
Might be a bit OTT but I also have to think of an "Operations Manual" of sorts to keep track of things - maybe in case we ever think of selling...
On Wednesday I started mowing...in March - our worst year for snow was in March - around 2005...(searches for photo)
March 2, 2005 Ozzie and Ben
On Thursday, Tjeerd and I started dismantling this fence - which I put in almost single-handedly in 2008 - Ivan and Louise came that year for a hire boat trip - so I remember that Ivan helped with the fencing.
About 10% of the poles have rotted - we expected a higher rate after 17 years, but were pleasantly surprised...we're going to relocate the fence to the front paddock
high- pressure cleaning the "green" off. We're also going to paint (stain) it black...
...The front paddock - about 60 x 60 metres
Kids' Weekend again....rolling around very quickly! One of our past kids came with his mother to ask if he could come back again - not sure what paperwork and approvals are needed but hopefully we can sort it out.
The other kids hopped in and did a couple of hours cleaning and tidying up outside - once they get started it's not so bad. "Gaming" has become such a thing these days compared with our early years. We used to have a "no computers" regime, but there seems to be no stopping it now...definitely a huge question mark as to what is happening to the kids...
...on a brighter note, I did have one boy asking what he has to do to get a tractor licence - which they do nowadays - from age 16 onwards. Farm kids were allowed without a licence previously but the tractors and equipment just got so big that they realised that something had to be done.
