Week 9
My list of things I did last week - feels like a list for Elon Musk :-)
- I think Elon requires bullet points...
I liked this - but not at all sure if it is true - no way of knowing these days
I hope they end up using it...
(I think I'm hoping for quite a bit of schadenfreude out of all this)
The EU firm holding €183bn of frozen Russian assets has hired bodyguards for its top executives, according to a joint EUobserver investigation with Belgian daily De Morgen, Belgian weekly Humo, French daily Le Monde, and RFE/RL in Prague.

"Disaster" preparedness
The boat might be a good place to retreat to if we can still get there by car...diesel, water, food, heating,radio....
Every Dutch citizen should be able to fend for themselves for 72 hours in the event of a cyber attack, a disaster that paralyses the country or a war, says Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel in De Telegraaf on Thursday . Previously, the advice was 48 hours of self-reliance.
That period has been extended "due to the rising geopolitical tensions in the world," a spokesperson for the minister told NU.nl. The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) is still working out what exactly that self-reliance entails.
In the EU, more money is being made available for defense now that US President Donald Trump is blocking support for Ukraine, among other things. "But the commitment to civil resilience must now increase at the same speed throughout Europe," says Van Weel.
Occasionally, I get a "free article" from the euObserver...
This one advocates a Rearmament Bank for Ukraine - independent of the EU, to avoid veto by Putin-supporting countries...
- Last Sunday we went to Amsterdam where Ben was housesitting for a friend - and looking after the cat...
The apartment is in "the West" - Ben's preferred area to live in if he can ever afford to buy an apartment of his own. We'd been to Westerpark before - where the gas storage tanks used to be. This time there was the monthly Sunday Market - lots of international food!
We sampled Vietnamese, Portugese, South African and Mexican Coffee Jam....before it all got too busy! Then we found a sunny terrace for alcohol-free cocktails...another Amsterdam Adventure for us.
- On Monday we finished the paving and removed the fountain (one of the clients says he will put it in his front yard - but it might be beyond him at the moment - we shall see)
- On Tuesday, our Tuesday volunteer came back to show us her new baby Myrle (pronounced Meer-leh).
Boeke was very curious...
- Sorry Elon, didn't do much on Wednesday - just some bookkeeping...
- On Thursday we made a new woodshed for the house - totally out of stuff we had left over...
- On Saturday we had kids' weekend, so I put them to work (now, Elon would surely approve)
- Our neighbour put solar panels on his roof but now asked if he could cut our trees down (moving to the airport and then complaining about the planes) but Janny said OK and I went along quietly - the wood is beech so good for the fire (ours) (second only to oak).
- And after that, the request was in for Ken's Lasagne... I had a delightful hour with one of the kids - he likes cooking and (despite all his difficulties) has taught himself (very good) English - through gaming and watching movies on Youtube - I haven't spent much time with him before but we're going to plan some more cooking for the next time...
Ben went to London after work on Monday - ended up spending time in Soho House - his worldwide "office" (complete with swimming pool) when he is away - including Amsterdam...
