Week 25 Another Day on the Boat

Week 25

The Netherlands has recorded its sunniest first half of the year since records began, with national sunshine totals surpassing the previous record set in 2022, according to weather forecaster Weeronline. (This sounds like a good thing, but it really isn't).

Kids' Weekend again - but a few are on holidays for one reason or another - so nice and quiet!

Around the farm

Caught up with all the mowing - about 5 hours these days - lucky we have sheep for some of it!

My Saturday helper said a couple of times that "the new slasher looks very nice" :-) - so I just had to let him have a go at it....

Tjeerd got it into his head that the skelters had to be "in good order" - so he spent 3 days sorting them all out, including reparing the leaking tyres! The kids are all getting a bit too old for them now but it's nice to have them tidied up.

Boat back to Heerenveen

We slept on board on Thursday night, ready for an early start on Friday

It was gray but there was very little wind - so it was a good but long day travelling - 8 hours this time because a bridge got stuck at the start - and later a boat couldn't fit in the lock with us, but we still had to wait for him to catch up for the following (larger) lock.

Not as good as it looks, but handy for the boat - to "suck" water from the canal...

We travelled with this boat for about 20kms - stopping to chat at all the locks and bridges...

There were two couples on board - from "down South" - they save every month for two years, so that they can hire a boat somewhere in the Netherlands - first time in Friesland and they were loving it

It turned out to be a very relaxing day and we were back just in time to fill up the diesel tanks - 144 litres!

Havenmeester Mark had previously promised us a "spot on the wall" - a permanent mooring alongside the grass.. this will be it, shortly...so we can be "away" without actually going anywhere.
