Week 37 Not much
Week 37
Didn't do much this week - there goes my theory about being an "active 75 year old". I've been hoping that my work around here is enough - especially as I enjoy it so much...
We have kids this weekend and my usual two hopped in and did some cleaning up and ONE fence pole - before it started raining!
One of the boys has ended up at a "practical" school, after some deliberation. It turns out that he just loves it - so hopefully he is on the right path.
During the week...
Tassie the cat helped me with my bookkeeping...
With winter coming on a few things have to be organised...painting the boat is probably the biggest job - I've allowed two weeks "in the shed" in October.

Paint, brushes, rollers, trays, filler, scrapers, rust treatment, sanders, masking tape. I'm planning 3 days at the start of the first week with Tjeerd (topside first) and then me alone for 3 days - maybe sleeping in the van if I can get it comfortable enough. I need to make the days a bit longer - as there is enough down time when waiting for filler or paint to dry. Then same again for the 2nd week with the hull.
A story about Europe's melting glaciers - which feed many rivers...
In the hot, dry summer of 2018, the water level on the Rhine River was so low that barges could no longer navigate the river. That got Bauer thinking about the way Germany builds its barges. "All the barges were heavily constructed to load the maximum capacity. We now need to rethink that," Bauer says.
Since the drought of 2018, Bauer's engineers have been hard at work designing a fleet of low-water barges that can transport up to 600 metric tons of goods in just 1.2 meters — or just over 3 feet — of water. But in an industry that builds just a hundred barges a year, he says it'll take a while to adjust to these new water levels.
