Week 42 10 years ago

Week 42 End of Summer Time I have to renew my driver's licence - this time with a medical certificate as a consequence of turning 75.  I had to fill in a questionaire online and they will direct me to an authorised medical exam. Maybe it will be a Trump-like cognitive test that I too can "ace"    :-) The boat comes out of the water tomorrow - I put off the painting until next year - the "winterising" will be done in a couple of weeks. We have a Local Government delegation of 6 people coming to look at our Day Activity operation - on the 11th of November - so Tjeerd and I are busy trying to tidy everything up - after so many years there will be many trips to the tip required!!! ...and the whole group (clients included) thought that it would be a good idea to have a "Christmas Market" / "Open Day" on the 6th of December...so they are all busy preparing for that... We had an Open Day when we first started in 2008 - I'm not sure how many peop...

Week 41 A hole in my clogs

Week 41 Kids'  Weekend again... I've been out to light the fire - everybody's sleeping, but I have Boeke and Tassie for company. It's still dark outside at 0730hrs and it's nowhere near real winter yet. Last Sunday we had a scare with Boeke - he couldn't walk. We thought something was not right on the Saturday when we came home - and by Sunday it had deteriorated. So, a trip to the vet organised for Monday.  The vet talked about knee problems, painklillers and operations - Boeke must have thought "uh-uh not for me" as by Tuesday he was on the mend again...we were scared of something genetic as we hear horror stories now and then - but all seems OK now. Early on Monday morning we first took Ros and Paul to Heerenveen train station to get them on the way to France - having had a last meal at the local restaurant on Sunday night... The B&B of Ros' brother looks like something to put on our list for a visit to France - we are already  long overdue ...

Week 40 The leaves do fall, but it is still Autumn

Week 40 A quiet week with time to spend with visitors... (It's Autumn)   Fall, leaves, fall; Die, flowers, away; Lengthen night and shorten day; Every leaf speaks bliss to me Fluttering from the autumn tree. I shall smile when wreaths of snow Blossom where the rose should grow; I shall sing when night’s decay Ushers in a drearier day. -- Emily Bronte We watched Jane Goodall on Netflix on Monday night When Ellen was here earlier this year, she put me on to an Australian site for current affairs...including some Australian area news that I would otherwise miss. US and Europe keep me quite alarmed enough as it is. https://johnmenadue.com/ This one about the world water crisis caught my attention... https://johnmenadue.com/post/2025/10/world-water-in-crisis/?utm_source=Pearls+%26+Irritations&utm_campaign=96c0c5549f-Daily&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0c6b037ecb-96c0c5549f-745124476 I've written here before about both the abundance of water here...and the glaring lack of ...

Week 39 Another week...

Image
Week 39 Just took Boeke for a walk 0700hrs. Now armed with my first cuppa. The weather is changing but it is still a wonderful thing...short walks I can do in my clogs! Janny had to sleep out the back last night - with the kids. No sign of them yet. So I had to do the late outing with Boeke...it was nearly a full moon so I tried some photos... A car went past just as I took this one... ...and there was a bike on the cycling path for this one And some birds (geese?) flying over during the week... Just some random readings/ideas...if I'm in the mood, I copy them to Google Keep. One thing I've learned from the Internet is that a lie needs 0% proof to be believed, but the truth requires thousands of pages of proof and still won't be believed. Frodo: “I wish it need not have happened in my time." Gandalf: "So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” J.R...
