Week 39 Another week...

 

Week 39

Just took Boeke for a walk 0700hrs. Now armed with my first cuppa. The weather is changing but it is still a wonderful thing...short walks I can do in my clogs!

Janny had to sleep out the back last night - with the kids. No sign of them yet. So I had to do the late outing with Boeke...it was nearly a full moon so I tried some photos...

A car went past just as I took this one...

And some birds (geese?) flying over during the week...






Just some random readings/ideas...if I'm in the mood, I copy them to Google Keep.


One thing I've learned from the Internet is that a lie needs 0% proof to be believed, but the truth requires thousands of pages of proof and still won't be believed.

As I'm walking in the forest and the heath opposite us, I often take photos. I have also tried to explain (to anyone who'll listen) that the colours change at different times and seasons...

So, this one reminded me of that...

The last of the fencing...although we do have a bit left over to do a section near the house. The posts and rails have to be cleaned and painted first.

We had to go to Groningen early on Friday morning...

...and overnight , Friday to Saturday ,we had 39mm of rain! and a strong wind warning for Saturday... and I lit the fire for the kids for the first time this autumn/winter.
Kids' Weekend again...they just keep rolling by...
Expecting bad weather, Janny bought them a dart board - as a few had expressed an interest...
I managed to recycle an old Notice Board from the Fire Protection Department - from nearly 40 years ago! I was "homeless" at the time and one of the bosses said I could take an old table - all the old office furniture was being replaced - I'm not sure why, but I grabbed the notice board as well...(and I still have the table).


I made some meat pies for the kids...and I found some Queensland Blue pumpkin at the Lidl supermarket! It was labelled "diverse".





Visitors

Good friends Paul and Ros are visiting next week. Paul was Best Man at our wedding...looking forward to it! 
Son Paul and Heather are also on their way - expected at the end of the month. 
A very special year for visitors, indeed!
...and the further adventures of Ben...
Janny was doing her social media thing and said "I think Ben is in Peru"...
...really, he just hops on an international flight as if he was catching the local train.
Doing another organised hike/trek...

The latest news on Saturday was that they were having a bit of trouble with the altitude...

Week 17 Visitor from Melbourne

Week 17  Ellen used to be the Office Manager at the Fire Protection Department in the 1980's. We always got on OK and kept in touch over the years as she got her MBA and moved on to bigger and more varied things - most recently retired and teaching music to disadvantaged kids in Melbourne. Janny, Ben and I stayed in her beachhouse at Queenscliff one year - about 1999, I think. We then lost touch but somehow Ellen retained the address of our house in Birdaard. Week 2 Things to do

Week 2 Things to do this year... (haha, in times when even buying long life milk seems a bit optimistic) Upgrade kids' area inside Vegie garden again Painting More firewood Security cameras (Cheryl could see who was at her front door - from all the way over here!) ...and I looked for some old boating blogs for a dear friend...and discovered that this is the 10th year of me doing this. It occupies a couple of hours on a Sunday morning, but it also means that I think about things during the preceding week - those "count your blessings" moments, or something unusual, or indeed something totally boring :-) as I often wonder how lucky I am that things turned out the way they did. Week 20 Back on the Boat

  Week 20 0500 starts - the long days are fantastic Definitely a counting our blessings day as I'm sitting on the boat writing this. (even though it is raining!). We stayed on board overnight on Friday in Heerenveen - mainly just to say hello to Ron and Nettie. We all went for dinner in Heerenveen and then a few card games and Bananagrams.  On Saturday morning it was a last minute decision to go into the Turf Route and invite Ron and Nettie for the day. We had doubts about the weather and wind - but it turned out just perfect as we arrived at our destination at 1500hrs and the rain arrived at 1600hrs as predicted. It was interesting to note in Gorredijk that there was a sign saying that " Due to the drought, there will be only 4 lock openings per day" . The boat in front had been waiting for us to arrive (the lock keepers knew we were coming). This meant that we could just keep going through without having to wait - it's all in the timing!
