Week 47

Week 47 Kids' Weekend again - gee, they come around quickly these days...  It's not yet 0700, but I have already lit the fire out the back so it will be nice and warm when they get up. They have left their shoes in front of the fire - for the traditional "Sinterklaas" gifts to be put in them. It's a Dutch thing (that was probably the forerunner to Santa Claus) - celebrated on 5th of December - with Sinterklaas and a character named Zwart Pete - but he's not allowed to be made up "black" anymore - funny, I never once thought of "slavery" - I just thought it was a quaint local tradition...oh well. It's not yet officially winter and the days will get shorter yet...but it is nice to have the fire on and do some cooking and binge TV watching - life goes on, after all. The cat and dog have been out... A (very) few little jobs during the week... Tjeerd finished off the Christmas trees - for our Open Day on 6 December...We'll be busy sett...

Week 46

Week 46 I remind myself every now and then... We have snow this morning . Boeke's walk will be a little different. Ben is home from Namibia but heading back to Amsterdam later today. I wrote a bit about the fire service a few weeks ago and I have been kicking myself ever since - because I forgot to mention that there has hardly been a day that I haven't been thankful that I ended up here as a result - I still have my plaques and other memorabilia proudly hung in our main recreation room. One of life's better twists... (haha, just a thought "better" could so easily be "bitter" but luckily, not the case). Boeke likes having Ben home as well... I'll wait until it gets light to take a couple of photos... Not much snow...melting already In the meantime Around the Farm Basically just getting ready for this... Tjeerd does the Christmas decorations every year - he is simply in his element - very painstaking and loves doing it. This year he will have a much b...

Adele Norris Copeland 1921 -

Adele Norris Copeland, nee Clarke Born 28-12-21 I was born in Moonee Ponds in a dwelling behind a second hand shop owned by Mum's sister and her husband Dad had already bought the fruit shop at Ormond so Mum had to wait till I was born to follow. I was 2 weeks old when we went to live behind the fruit shop - one bedroom and four children. I used to get upset when Mum and Dad used to say they got me from a second hand shop. Probably the same shop today would be called an Antique Shop. Two years later we moved to a new house in Dalmore Av, Dad's two brothers Perc and Bill, both carpenters, built it. Dad used a horse and cart to go to the market. I can't remember it but Vera and Ron do. Bill was born when I was 5 1/2. When I was 12 we bought a new house - brick and for those days very flash - Dad bought another house in Dalmore Av. - he owned the three houses and the business. We all went to Ormond State School. Ron & Vera went to Brighton Tech. Bill went t...
